Answer: Playing in gambling tools, such as chess, dominoes, backgammon, and betting on them is haraam; even playing chess and backgammon [and the like] without betting is haraam.
2 Question: Is selling gambling tools allowed?
Answer: Selling gambling tools and equipments and instruments of forbidden amusement, such as violin, is haraam.
3 Question: Is it permissible to play dice, dominoes, snooker, chess etc.?
Answer: It is absolutely not permissible to play chess and dice with other people. As well, it is not permissible, as an obligatory precaution, to play dominoes and snooker. As for other games, it is haram to play them, if they involve betting. Rather, if they are considered in common view to be means for gambling, it is not permissible to play them, as an obligatory precaution.
4 Question: Is it permissible to play games of chance of all kinds on electronic machines (computers) without betting or with betting?
Answer: It is not permissible, and it is treated the same as normal [non-electronic] gambling instruments. It is not permissible to play a game that involves betting.
